振舞かな当時敵之ことくに思ふ脇坂殿江売申候段不届至極
現代語訳
そこで九郎兵衛の弟である伊藤五右衛門のもとへ出向き、「九郎兵衛殿が城中で私に札の借金があると申されたそうですが、その真偽を確かめたく宅へ出向いたところ、このような次第で面会していただけませんでした。そのようにご承知おきください」と申し伝えました。それから九郎兵衛は四月十一日の夜、ひそかに息子の郡右衛門と一緒に立ち退いたとのことです。その後の経緯は盟伝にあるので省略します。
一 萩原兵助とその弟儀左衛門は経済状態がよく、近国では隠れもない裕福な人物です。この兄弟は大筒を所持していましたが、離散前にその大筒を脇坂淡路守殿へ売ったとのことです。侍中がこれを伝え聞いて不届きなことと思っております。この件は足軽共まで伝わっており、「悪い振る舞いだな。現在敵のようなものと思っている脇坂殿へ売り申した件は不届き至極である」と言っております。

So [Yasōemon] went to Kurōbei's younger brother Itō Goemon and conveyed: "Kurōbei-dono apparently stated in the castle that I owed him money from card gambling. I went to his residence to ascertain the truth of this matter, but with such circumstances, he would not meet with me. Please understand the situation accordingly." After that, Kurōbei secretly departed on the night of the 11th day of the 4th month together with his son Gunemon. The subsequent developments are recorded in the alliance records, so I will omit them here.
One: Hagiwara Hyōsuke and his younger brother Gizaemon are well-off financially and are well-known wealthy individuals in the neighboring provinces. These brothers possessed large cannons, but before the dispersion [of the Akō retainers], they sold these cannons to Lord Wakisaka Awaji-no-kami. When the samurai learned of this, they considered it improper behavior. This matter has been transmitted even to the foot soldiers, who say: "What deplorable conduct! Selling [weapons] to Lord Wakisaka, whom we currently regard as an enemy, is extremely improper."
