一　赤穂の城が没収される旨を聞いた月日の件について、当城が没収されるということは結局申してきませんでした。先月十日、戸田采女正殿より使者を以て、土屋相模守様より先月十八日にお申し渡しがあり、当城のお受け取りの担当者様、ご目付両所様がお任命される旨をお聞かせいただいたことにより、当城が没収されることが決定したと承知いたしました。江戸に滞在している家老たちからの内々の連絡を送ってきた飛脚は二十六日夜中に到着いたしました。

One: Regarding the date when we heard that Akō Castle would be confiscated, we were never directly informed that this castle would be confiscated. On the 10th of last month, through a messenger from Toda Uneme-no-sho, we were informed that Tsuchiya Sagami-no-kami had announced on the 18th of last month that officials to take over this castle and both metsuke (inspectors) would be appointed. Based on this, we understood that the confiscation of this castle was decided. The express messenger who brought the confidential communication from the senior retainers staying in Edo arrived on the night of the 26th.
