御了簡を以御願可被下候は忝儀に奉存候由申候得は其段いか
にも尤に候願書被差出候事憚被申候は其段委細江戸表江
可有言上候調申所は如何可有之哉難計存候得共先右之趣

之趣江戸江被仰上候得共右思召有之其上並も有之義故
不相調候随分情出候得共右之通之由内蔵助江御物語なり
一城引渡已後相残る人数并公儀より御扶持被下面々
残り人に被下置候御扶持方請取之下書石原新左衛門殿より
五月七日御渡し被成候嶺佐左衛門受取罷帰る
現代語訳
御了解をもってお願いくださることは有り難いことと存じますと申し上げたところ、その件はいかにも尤もなことである、願書を差し出すことを憚られるならば、その詳細を江戸表に言上することになる、調整がどのようになるかは計り難いが、まず右の趣旨をもって申し上げるべきであるとのことでした。ところが五月五日に十左衛門殿が仰せになったことには、残米の件についての思召を江戸に申し上げたが、右の思召もあり、その上並々のことでもあるため、調整がつかなかった。随分情けを出したが右の通りであると内蔵助に物語られた。
一、城の引き渡し後に残る人数、並びに公儀より御扶持を下される面々
残りの人に下し置かれた御扶持方の受取の下書を、石原新左衛門殿より五月七日にお渡しになり、嶺佐左衛門が受け取って帰った。

When we stated that it would be most grateful if you would petition on our behalf with your understanding, we were told that this was indeed quite reasonable. If submitting a petition directly would be presumptuous, then the details would need to be reported to Edo, and while it was difficult to predict how the arrangements would turn out, we should first proceed with this approach. However, on the 5th day of the 5th month, Jūzaemon-dono informed us that although the lord's intentions regarding the remaining rice had been reported to Edo, due to these intentions and the fact that this was a common matter, no arrangement could be made. Though considerable compassion was shown, this was the result, as was related to Kuranosuke.
One: Regarding the number of people remaining after the castle handover, and those receiving stipends from the government
The draft receipt for the stipend allocations given to the remaining people was handed over by Ishihara Shinzaemon-dono on the 7th day of the 5th month, and Mine Sazaemon received it and returned.
