○一御馳走之御下しらへ相調候に付上野助殿江御窺被成候処段々不宜御
仕形共多有之之由上野介殿元来欲深き人故前々御勤之衆前廉
より御進物等度々有之由に付喜六政右衛門も御用人共【朱挿入】迄申遣御用人共
も度々申上候得共内匠頭様思召には御用相済候上に而は如何程も
可被進候得共前廉には度々御音物有之義は如何敷思召之由被仰候
尤格式之御附届は前廉に被遣候由

代わって脇坂淡路守殿が仰せ付けられた。
○一、御馳走の御下調べを整えるにつき、上野助殿にお伺いを立てたところ、段々と宜しくない御仕方が多くあった由。上野介殿は元来欲深い人であるため、前々より御勤めの衆が前廉（事前）より御進物等を度々したという由で、喜六・政右衛門も御用人共まで申し遣わし、御用人共も度々申し上げたけれども、内匠頭様の思召しには、御用が済んだ上ではいかほどでも進上するけれども、前廉には度々御音物があることは如何なものかと思召しの由を仰せられた。もっとも格式の御付け届けは前廉に遣わされた由。
○一、右の上野介殿に段々と宜しくない御仕方等があったため、内匠頭様が御鬱憤にお思いになることが多く相聞こえる由。

In his place, Lord Wakisaka Awaji-no-kami was appointed.
○ Regarding the preliminary arrangements for the entertainment, when inquiries were made to Kōzuke-no-suke-dono, there were many improper behaviors on his part. Since Kōzuke-no-suke-dono was inherently a greedy person, those who had previously performed such duties had frequently offered gifts and presents in advance. Kihachi and Masaemon sent messages even to the chamberlains, and the chamberlains also reported this matter repeatedly. However, Lord Takumi-no-kami's intention was that while he would gladly offer any amount of gifts after the duties were completed, he thought it improper to frequently give presents beforehand. The formal protocol documents were sent in advance as proper.
○ Due to Kōzuke-no-suke-dono's various improper behaviors mentioned above, it is widely heard that Lord Takumi-no-kami harbored much resentment and frustration.
