被遣候哉罷帰申候上安芸守江申聞せ安堵仕せ候ため御尋申上候と申候
得は十左衛門殿御申聞候は従是可申入と存候処返答に相成候此度引渡之
次第侍中作法等無残所仕形内蔵助【諸事】念入候仕形裁判共別而感入候
江戸江罷帰候は右之段宜御申達可有之旨御挨拶に候由夫より直に
采女殿江参候処是又御逢被成此方より御挨拶不申内あなたより
今日城首尾よく引渡相済珍重存候内蔵助【此節】取込中城内家中
共所々委細に裁判無残所仕形内匠頭との死後之ため第一御一類中
江之奉公と存事に候御自分帰府候は安芸守殿江右之段具に御
心得可有之候御自分にも嘸可被致安堵と存候由御挨拶被成候事

遣わされたのでしょうか、帰って参りました上で安芸守へ申し聞かせて安堵いたしたいために、お尋ね申し上げました」と申したところ、十左衛門殿が仰せになったのは「こちらから申し入れようと存じていたところ、返答になります。この度の引き渡しの次第、侍中の作法等、残すところなく仕上げ、内蔵助は【諸事】念入りに仕上げ、裁判ともに格別に感心いたします。江戸へ帰りましたら、右の段を宜しくお申し伝えいただけるでしょう」との旨のご挨拶でした。それより直ちに采女殿のところへ参ったところ、これまたお会いくださり、こちらからご挨拶を申し上げない内に、あちらから「今日、城が首尾よく引き渡し済み、珍重に存じます。内蔵助は【この節】取り込み中、城内の家中ともに所々委細に裁判し、残すところなく仕上げました。内匠頭殿の死後のため、第一にご一類中への奉公と存じることです。ご自分が帰府されましたら、安芸守殿へ右の段を具体的にご心得いただけるでしょう。ご自分におかれましても、さぞかし安堵なされることと存じます」とのご挨拶をなされたことです。
英語訳
"Were you sent there? After returning, I wished to report to Lord Aki-no-kami to give him peace of mind, which is why I humbly make this inquiry." When he said this, Lord Jūzaemon replied, "I was just thinking of bringing this up myself, so this serves as a response. Regarding the circumstances of this surrender, the conduct and protocol of the samurai were carried out flawlessly. Kuranosuke handled [all matters] with great care, and both he and the magistrates performed exceptionally well. When you return to Edo, please convey this message appropriately." After this greeting, he went directly to Lord Uneme, who also received him. Before he could offer his own greeting, the other party said, "Today the castle has been successfully surrendered, which I find most commendable. Kuranosuke, [during this time] of great busyness, handled the detailed adjudication of matters throughout the castle and among the retainers without leaving anything undone. Following the death of Lord Takumi-no-kami, this is considered the foremost service to your clan members. When you return to the capital, Lord Aki-no-kami will be thoroughly informed of these matters. You yourself must surely feel greatly relieved." Such was the greeting he received.
