現代語訳
団右衛門の件について、赤穂の御用を仰せ付けられ、万が一にも内蔵助が御城を渡し申すことがない【つまり御城内において同志が自滅する結末になったとしても、逃げ帰る覚悟はない】という覚悟でありました。内蔵助もその気色に見えたということを、同人が他の者に物語ったということです。団右衛門が帰り、保左衛門殿、庄左衛門殿に御用を申し談じて、その後に内蔵助の仕事ぶりについて申すところがないほどでした。いかなる様子でも、常の人とは見えません。内蔵助などと片名で呼ぶべき人体には見えず、是非とも「内蔵助殿」と呼ばなければならない人と見え、奥ゆかしく心ある人柄と感心したという噂があったということです。
○一、四月二十二日、城付きの金銀はないことにつき、その段も目録に認めて石原新左衛門殿へ差し出す。

Regarding the matter of Danemon, he was assigned to handle Ako affairs, and even if by any chance Kuranosuke were unable to surrender the castle [meaning that even if the loyal retainers met their end within the castle grounds, he had no intention of fleeing]. Kuranosuke also appeared to have this same resolve, which Danemon related to others. After Danemon returned and consulted on official business with Lord Yasazaemon and Lord Shozaemon, there was nothing to criticize about Kuranosuke's conduct thereafter. In every respect, he did not appear to be an ordinary person. He did not seem like someone who could be called simply "Kuranosuke" by his given name alone. He appeared to be a person who absolutely must be addressed as "Lord Kuranosuke," and there were rumors that people were impressed by his refined and thoughtful character.
○ Item 1: On the 22nd day of the 4th month, since there was no gold or silver attached to the castle, this matter was also recorded in the inventory and submitted to Lord Ishihara Shinzaemon.
