末々に而は不奉存候御手を被入被下候儀は御直に無之共いつれ様
に而も御役人方江御快御もの可被仰聞筋にも手つかひ被遊御

上に御如最可被思召御間柄にも無之候得共申上に不及義なから
家中之者共大学殿安否不考御一門中様江御一言を被出候
得は事調可申義を歎き不申上と内蔵助壱人を恨苦しみ
申体難黙止諸事不顧申達儀に御座候
一右口上書之趣迄は大学殿閉門之跡難計御免被成候而一規模面
目有之品も無之候而は罷出候而勤難成義と奉存候事に候
現代語訳
末々においては存じ奉りませんが、御手をお入れ下さる儀は御直接でなくとも、いずれの様にでも御役人方へ御快諾のものを仰せ聞かされる筋にも手遣いをなされ、御一家様方の御歎息をお汲み取り御願いを成される筋にいたしたく存じ奉ります。もっとも上におかれましては御如才なくお思し召しになるべき御間柄でもございませんが、申し上げるに及ばない儀ながら、家中の者共は大学殿の安否を考えず、御一門中様へ御一言をお出し頂ければ事が調うであろう儀を歎き、申し上げないと内蔵助一人を恨み苦しみ申す体で、黙止し難く、諸事を顧みず申し達する儀でございます。
一、右の口上書の趣旨までは、大学殿の閉門の後、御免を成され難く計り知れず、一つの規模や面目のある品もございませんでは、罷り出て勤めを成し難い儀と存じ奉ります事に候。

In the end, we do not presume to know, but regarding the matter of your intervention, even if not directly, we would like to arrange in some way for favorable responses to be conveyed to the government officials, taking into consideration the lamentations of your house clan and making petitions on their behalf. Of course, those above would not be in a position to think favorably of this matter, but although it is not necessary to mention, the retainers do not consider Lord Daigaku's well-being and lament that if just one word were spoken to the members of your clan, matters could be resolved. Their attitude of resenting and suffering over Kuranosuke alone for not speaking up cannot be silenced, and they speak out about various matters without consideration.
1. Regarding the content of the above oral statement: after Lord Daigaku's house confinement, it is difficult to predict when he will be pardoned, and without any substantial standing or dignity, we believe it would be difficult to appear and perform duties.
