一筆致啓上候弥御堅固御座候旨伝承珍重奉存候
一今度赤穂之城引渡之義滞無之様に家中之者共江申含
候得と松平安芸守殿戸田采女正殿より追々被聞候随分
相違無之様申渡相済申候弟大学閉門被 仰付候此安否不
承届家中之者立退候義安心不仕於拙者も致難儀候畢竟家中
之面々心落不申所有之候此段無余儀存候何とそ於江戸御役
人中様方江手筋を求大学閉門御免蒙候上人前も宜敷相
勤候様に仕度候左候へは家中之者共致安堵候依之近頃申兼

一筆啓上いたします。ますますご健勝のこととお聞きし、珍重に存じます。
一、この度の赤穂城引き渡しの件について、滞りなく進むよう家中の者どもに申し含めましたが、松平安芸守殿、戸田采女正殿より次々とお聞きになり、間違いのないよう申し渡しを済ませました。弟の大学が閉門を仰せ付けられましたが、この安否が分からず、家中の者が立ち退く件について安心できず、私も困っております。結局のところ、家中の面々が心を落ち着かせることができない状況があります。この件はやむを得ないことと存じますが、何とか江戸でご役人の方々に手づるを求め、大学の閉門をお許しいただいた上で、人前でも良好に勤めができるようにしたいと思います。そうすれば家中の者どもも安堵いたします。そのため、最近申し上げにくいことではございますが、貴院におかれましては江戸へお下りになり、公儀向けのお取り計らいをお頼み申し上げます。

I humbly write this letter. I have heard that you are in excellent health, which I find most gratifying.
First, regarding the matter of handing over Ako Castle, I instructed the retainers to ensure it proceeds without delay. However, as Lord Matsudaira Aki-no-kami and Lord Toda Uneme-no-sho have been making successive inquiries, I have completed giving instructions to avoid any mistakes. My younger brother Daigaku has been ordered into house confinement, but not knowing his safety, and with the retainers' departure from service, I cannot feel at ease and am in great difficulty. Ultimately, the retainers cannot settle their hearts in this situation. I believe this matter is unavoidable, but somehow I would like to seek connections among the officials in Edo to obtain forgiveness for Daigaku's house confinement, so that he may serve well in public thereafter. If this were accomplished, the retainers would also feel relieved. Therefore, though it is difficult for me to ask recently, I humbly request that you go down to Edo and arrange matters with the shogunate authorities.
