形を取っておくべきであると申し上げました。この段をお聞き届けくださるようにと申し上げましたところ、その段をお聞き届けになり、存じ寄りもっともにお思いになりました。九郎兵衛の件は不届き至極、人でなしでございます。平民とは違い、欠落の件は上に対して不届き者でございますので、存じ寄りの通りになさるべきでございます。明日、庄大夫殿へ右の段をご相談なさるでしょう。【自分にも出向いて右の趣旨を申し伝えるようにとおっしゃいました。手代◦】松嶋條右衛門が申しますには、右の趣旨を内蔵助殿がお伺い申し上げたのではございません。右の趣旨をお聞き届けくださるようにと申し上げた件でございますと申しましたので、なるほどもっともなことと承り届けましたので、その通りに申し付けるようにと新左衛門殿がおっしゃいました。その以後、庄大夫殿へも出向いて申し上げましたところ、これもまた同様におっしゃいました。
一、この頃、上方の者であるということで、右の道具を受け取りたいと手代どもまで申してまいりましたが、右道具の訳をこちらでは全く承っていないので、否の指図を申すべきことではない旨を

[I said] that an inventory should be taken. When I requested that this matter be heard and acknowledged, he listened to the matter and thought my suggestion quite reasonable. Regarding Kurōbei, his conduct is extremely improper—he is inhuman. Unlike ordinary commoners, his absconding is a matter of impropriety toward his superiors, so things should proceed as you suggest. Tomorrow, he will consult with Lord Shōdayū about this matter. [He told me to go myself and convey this message to the clerk ◦] Matsushima Jōzaemon said that Lord Kuranosuke was not making an inquiry about this matter, but rather requesting that this matter be heard and acknowledged. When he said this, [Lord Shinzaemon] replied that this was indeed quite reasonable and that things should be handled accordingly. Afterward, when I also went to Lord Shōdayū and explained the situation, he responded in the same manner.
One, recently, claiming to be people from the Kamigata region, [some individuals] sent word through the clerks that they wished to retrieve the aforementioned belongings. However, since we have not received any information about the circumstances of these belongings, [I said] that we should not give instructions to refuse [them].
