申聞せ候へは左様に御座候は上方江罷登り追而参上可仕と申候に付百度参
候而も差図申儀は不仕と申聞候依之当町大年寄新右衛門呼寄上方
者之由に而右之通願申候此方より差図申義に而は無之候得共いか様之かたり
を申参候儀も無覚束候得は右之道具渡遣候義候に而は有之間敷候左
様心得候様にと申含候と新左衛門殿被仰付庄大夫殿江も致伺公新左衛門殿
江相達候通申上候且又右に付安藤善大夫神崎与五郎横川勘平江申付右
之道具相改則右三人致封預り主より手形取来候前廉足軽共附置候
封印は足軽江戻し御代官衆江右之通り相達預け被置候に付此方より
改封印申付候段小頭共呼寄申聞候へと申渡し道具預り居申候町人共呼寄
現代語訳
申し聞かせましたところ、それでしたら上方へ上って、追って参上いたしますと申しましたので、百回参りましても指図を申すことはいたしませんと申し聞かせました。これにより、当町の大年寄新右衛門を呼び寄せ、上方の者であるということで右の通り願い出ております。こちらより指図を申すことではございませんが、いかような騙りを申してまいることも心もとないので、右の道具をお渡しすることはあるまじきことでございます。そのように心得るようにと申し含めましたと新左衛門殿がおっしゃいました。庄大夫殿へもお伺いし、新左衛門殿へお伝えした通りを申し上げました。また右に付き、安藤善大夫、神崎与五郎、横川勘平へ申し付け、右の道具を改め、すぐに右の三人が封をして預かり、主より手形を取ってまいりました。前廉の足軽どもを付け置き、封印は足軽へ戻し、ご代官衆へ右の通り相達し、預け置かれましたので、こちらより改めて封印を申し付けた段を小頭どもを呼び寄せ申し聞かせよと申し渡し、道具を預かっております町人どもを呼び寄せ

When I explained this to them, they said that if that was the case, they would go up to the Kamigata region and come back later. Therefore, I told them that even if they came a hundred times, we would not give them instructions. Consequently, I summoned Shinemon, the ōdoshiyori (senior administrator) of this town, [and explained that] people claiming to be from the Kamigata region had made this request. Although it is not our place to give instructions, since we cannot be certain what kind of deception they might be attempting, the aforementioned belongings should not be handed over. I instructed him to keep this in mind, as Lord Shinzaemon had ordered. I also consulted with Lord Shōdayū and reported the same thing I had conveyed to Lord Shinzaemon. Furthermore, regarding this matter, I gave orders to Andō Zendayū, Kanzaki Yogorō, and Yokogawa Kanpei to inspect the aforementioned belongings. The three of them immediately sealed and took custody of them, obtaining a receipt from the owner. The ashigaru (foot soldiers) who had been assigned previously were kept in place, the seal was returned to the ashigaru, and since this was reported to the代官衆 (magistrates) and left in their custody, I ordered that the koashira (squad leaders) be summoned to be informed that we had ordered a new sealing from our side, and summoned the townspeople who were keeping the belongings.
