一、この間に方々で激しい戦いなどもあったであろうが、四十七人が散らばったことゆえ、様子を詳細に把握することは困難である。
○一、右の寝間に硯箱があったので、茅野和助が立ち止まって墨をすり、傍らの張り紙に「浅野内匠頭家来大石内蔵助をはじめ若者ども四十七人、この所まで押し込んだが、上野介殿はこの所にいらっしゃらず」と大字で書き付けて置いた。
【この張り紙は事件の後、旗本衆の所望でかけ物にされたということで、確かなことである】
【ただし、このことは当てにならない。騒動の跡であり、そのままにしておくべきことではない。家来どもへの見せしめとして捨て置くべきことである】

○One: There was an inkstone box in the aforementioned bedroom, so Chano Wasuke stopped and ground ink, writing in large characters on a paper nearby: "Ōishi Kuranosuke and forty-seven young retainers of Asano Takumi-no-kami have forced their way to this place, but Lord Kōzuke-no-suke is not present here," and left it there.
[This written notice was later made into a hanging scroll at the request of the hatamoto after the incident settled, which is a reliable fact]
