現代語訳
武林只七（間十次郎）が大身の槍で突き刺し、首は間十次郎（武林只七）が切り上げた。なんとなくその様子が怪しいので、松明で首を見ると、老人で四方髪、その上死体や衣類の様子が上野介殿のようであると思われたので、見覚えのある者に見せた。
堀部安兵衛と富森助右衛門が見て（・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・）「一昨年の傷があるはずだ」として見たところ、傷もあり、上野介殿に間違いないが、念のため捕らえておいた敵方の者に見せようということで連れてきて「上野介殿ではないか。正直に申さなければ一撃で殺す」と言ったところ、「命さえお助けくださるなら申しましょう」として、「なるほど主人上野介殿の首でございます」と申した。一同大変な喜びようであった。

Takebayashi Tadashichi (Mashichirō) pierced him with a large spear, and Mashichirō (Takebayashi Tadashichi) cut off the head. Something seemed suspicious about the situation, so they examined the head by torchlight and saw it was an old man with shimohō hair style, and moreover the appearance of the corpse and clothing seemed to be that of Lord Kōzuke-no-suke, so they showed it to those who might recognize him.
Horibe Yasubē and Tomimori Sukeemon looked at it and (・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・) said "There should be a scar from two years ago," and when they looked, there was indeed a scar, and it was unmistakably Lord Kōzuke-no-suke. However, to be certain, they brought one of the enemy retainers they had captured and said "Is this not Lord Kōzuke-no-suke? If you do not answer honestly, we will strike you down in one blow." He replied "If you will spare my life, I will tell you," and said "Indeed, this is the head of my master, Lord Kōzuke-no-suke." Everyone was filled with boundless joy.
