現代語訳

一、四十七人の者どもは十四日の夕方までは方々の借宅に身を寄せていた。昨夜暮れまでに借屋をすべて片付けて、両国橋辺りまで出向き、茶屋などで休んで時刻を待ち合わせた。夜七時前に上野介様のお屋敷へ向かい、表門・裏門にかかり、長屋を越え塀を乗り越え、裏門をも押し破って残らず内へ乱入し、本家を取り囲んで合図によってそれぞれに固めた。その際、内へ入る者があり、玄関から戸を打ち破って座敷へ入った。その時番人一人を捕らえて案内をさせ、蝋燭なども取り出させて火を灯し、だんだん奥へ討ち入って、出会った者は即座に討ち捨てた。上野介様のご寝所と思われる所へ打ち入って見たところ、すでにお立ち去りになった様子で、夜着などが引き散らかされ、刀はそのままあったので、方々を探したけれども、お姿は見えなかった。そのため総がかりで打ち入って色々と尋ねたけれども

Item: The forty-seven men had been staying in various borrowed residences until the evening of the 14th. By last evening, they had cleared out all their lodgings and proceeded to the vicinity of Ryōgoku Bridge, where they rested at teahouses and waited for the appointed time. Before seven o'clock at night, they headed to Lord Kōzuke-no-suke's mansion, attacking both the front and rear gates, climbing over the long houses and walls, breaking through the rear gate as well, and rushing inside without exception. They surrounded the main house and secured their positions according to their signals. At that time, some entered the interior, breaking down the doors from the entrance hall and entering the sitting rooms. At that moment, they captured one watchman and made him serve as a guide, had him bring out candles and other items to light fires, and gradually advanced deeper inside, immediately cutting down anyone they encountered. When they broke into what appeared to be Lord Kōzuke-no-suke's bedroom and looked around, it seemed he had already departed, with nightclothes scattered about and his sword left behind. Though they searched everywhere, he could not be seen, so they all pressed forward and searched in various ways, but
