He could not be seen, and after searching the household three times, they noticed what seemed to be human presence in a storage-like place at the back of the sleeping quarters. When they broke down the door with the butt end of a spear and looked inside, there appeared to be about three people, so they called out loudly repeatedly, "Are you not Lord Kōzuke-no-suke? Please come forward. If not, tell us where Lord Kōzuke-no-suke's quarters are." But there was no response whatsoever. When various objects were thrown out, they shot arrows from half-bows and thrust in spears to search. Two people came out and were immediately struck down.
