〇一飛騨守殿ゟ即刻物頭弐組川久保小右衛門本多九左衛門火之用心
之為とて被差越御心持は堅め之心之由
▢一内蔵助和尚へ申候は私共切腹可仕候間左様に御心得被下候様にと申
達候処和尚答に致承知候得共今少し御待被下候へ此上は御切腹は
いつに而も成申候間先御無用其上当寺之義をも思召被下候はゝ是
非御待被下候様にと達而断申候由残り候者共申候は最早此世の礼義
相済申候上野介様之御家来衆も只今迄我等共如所存嘸御無念に

○一、泉岳寺より使僧を以って寺社奉行阿部飛騨守殿へ《割書：豊後守嫡子、一万石》注進仕った。
○一、飛騨守殿より即刻、物頭二組の川久保小右衛門、本多九左衛門を火の用心のためとして差し向けられた。御心持ちは警備を堅めるためとのことである。
○一、内蔵助が和尚へ申すには「私共は切腹致したく存じますので、そのようにご承知おきくださいますように」と申し達したところ、和尚の答えには「承知いたしましたが、今少しお待ちください。この上は御切腹はいつでもできることですから、まずは御無用に。その上、当寺のことをもお思いくださるならば、是非ともお待ちくださいますように」と強く断ったという。残りの者共が申すには「最早この世の礼儀は相済み申した。上野介様の御家来衆も只今まで我等共の所存の如く、さぞかし御無念に...」

○One: From Hida-no-kami, immediately two groups of captains, Kawakubo Koemon and Honda Kyūzaemon, were dispatched ostensibly for fire prevention. His intention was said to be for strengthening security.
○One: Kuranosuke said to the head priest, "We wish to commit seppuku, so please understand this accordingly." The priest replied, "I understand, but please wait a little longer. At this point, your seppuku can be performed at any time, so first, please refrain. Moreover, if you would consider the circumstances of this temple as well, please by all means wait." He earnestly refused. The remaining retainers said, "The courtesies of this world have already been completed. Lord Kōzuke-no-suke's retainers too, until now, just as we intended, must surely feel great resentment..."
