我等体も今各之御志しにあやかり度と存候事に候と被申何も
興に入申候
▢一方丈被申候は当寺は禁盃之事に候得共今朝別而寒気も強く
又いつれも尋常にかわり候へは御酒壱つ宛被聞召候へと自手銚子
土器取持て不怪馳走之体に相見候へとも内蔵助何れも申候は
御厚情不浅千万忝存候当寺御禁盃之所に而酒給候事非
本意候へは給申間敷と再三申候へ共方丈達而不苦候旨申候に付
内蔵助申候は然は御志を給不申候は却而慮外にも候へとて各大盃
を以数盃かたむけ興に入申候兵者の交り頼み有中の酒
現代語訳
我等の体も今各々のご志にあやかりたく存じることでございます」と申され、皆も興に入った。
○一、方丈が申されるには「当寺は禁酒のことでございますが、今朝は特に寒気も強く、またいずれも尋常とは違いますので、お酒を一つずつお召し上がりください」と自ら銚子と土器を取り持って、並々ならぬもてなしの様子に見えたが、内蔵助をはじめ皆が申すには「ご厚情は浅からず千万恐れ入ります。当寺がご禁酒の所でお酒をいただくことは本意ではございませんので、いただくべきではありません」と再三申したけれども、方丈がどうしても構わないとの旨を申したので、内蔵助が申すには「それではお志をいただかないのはかえって慮外にもあたります」と言って、各々大盃でもって数盃を傾け、興に入った。武者の交わり、頼みある中での酒である。

"We too would like to be blessed by each of your noble aspirations," and everyone was pleased.
○One: The head priest said, "Though our temple prohibits alcohol, this morning is particularly cold, and since you are all in extraordinary circumstances, please partake of one cup of sake each." He personally took up the sake flask and earthenware cups, showing exceptional hospitality. However, Kuranosuke and the others replied, "Your profound kindness is immeasurable and we are deeply grateful. However, since this temple prohibits alcohol, it would go against our principles to drink sake here, so we should not partake." Though they declined repeatedly, the head priest insisted it would be no problem, so Kuranosuke said, "In that case, not accepting your goodwill would be rather discourteous," and each of them tilted large cups several times, enjoying themselves greatly. This was sake shared among warriors, bonds of trust between them.
