闇く可有之【哉】と御尋両人答昨夜は晴月に而光強く何も難義仕候
夜討之合言葉を申合候哉両人答成程申合候相印は如何と被仰候
白き布を用申候と申上る内へは如何して入候哉と御尋両人答門を破
入申候内之明りは如何仕候哉両人答乱入之節彼方番人壱人召捕候を
羽かい〆に仕此者に蝋燭之有所を承入物を取出し数を改出し玄
関の灯に而蝋燭を灯し立内へ乱入湯殿并縁下迄も尋候へとも
上野介様御見へ不被成と申時居間へは参候哉と両人答慥に御居間と
存候処へも参り候次之間に番人之夜具と相見へ数多ぬき捨有之候
其内間十次郎と申者炭部屋へ参り戸を打離し候時内に人音有

「暗かったであろうか」とのお尋ねに、両人が答えたのは「昨夜は晴れた月夜で光が強く、何も難儀いたしませんでした」。「夜討ちの合言葉を申し合わせたか」との問いに両人が答えたのは「なるほど申し合わせました」。「相印はどのようなものか」と仰せになると、「白い布を用いました」と申し上げた。「屋敷内にはどのようにして入ったか」とのお尋ねに両人が答えたのは「門を破って入りました」。「屋敷内の明かりはどうしたか」との問いに両人が答えたのは「乱入の際、あちらの番人一人を召し捕らえ、羽交い締めにして、この者に蝋燭のある所を尋ね、入れ物を取り出して数を改め、玄関の灯で蝋燭に火を灯し、屋敷内へ乱入いたしました。湯殿並びに縁の下まで探しましたが、上野介様はお見えになりませんでした」と申した時、「居間へは参ったか」との問いに両人が答えたのは「確かにお居間と存じます所へも参りました。次の間に番人の夜具と見える物が数多く脱ぎ捨ててありました。その間に間十次郎と申す者が炭部屋へ参り、戸を打ち離した時、内に人の気配がありました」。
