▢一夜中認めは如何仕候哉と御尋両人答廻向院前茶屋に而認め仕候

器量すこやかに相見候声はいまだ若輩に候へ共形は大男に
相見へ尤元服に而御座候列座之衆能き器量之誉被申候
主税江戸住居に候哉同人答て在所に罷在候由申候其時忠左衛門
申候は私足軽寺坂吉右衛門と申者夜前上野介様門前迄罷
越候処相見へ不申候門内に而は誰も見懸不申由に御座候夫故拾

現代語訳
一、夜中に認めた（文書）はいかがいたしましたかとお尋ねになり、両人が答えて「回向院前の茶屋で認めました」と申しました。
一、大石主税と申すのはどちらでしょうかとお尋ねになり、五六番目の座から出て「私でございます」（と答えました）。年はいくつかとお尋ねになり、主税は十五歳になったと申しました。恰好は大きく、器量はすこやかに見え、声はまだ若輩でございますが、形は大男に見え、もっとも元服しております。列座の衆は良い器量だとお褒めになりました。主税は江戸住居でしょうかと（お尋ねになり）、同人が答えて「在所におります」と申しました。その時、忠左衛門が申しましたのは「私の足軽寺坂吉右衛門と申す者が夜前上野介様の門前まで参りましたところ、見えませんでした。門内では誰も見かけなかったということでございます。それゆえ十六人でございます」と申し上げました。

One: When asked "What did you do with the document written during the night?" both men answered, "We wrote it at a teahouse in front of Ekoin Temple."
One: When asked "Which one is Oishi Chikara?" he came forward from the fifth or sixth seat saying "It is I." When asked his age, Chikara said he had turned fifteen. His build was large, his appearance healthy, and though his voice was still that of a youth, his form appeared that of a big man, and he had already undergone his coming-of-age ceremony. The assembled company praised his fine appearance. When asked if Chikara resided in Edo, he answered "I am staying in my home province." At that time, Chuuzaemon said, "My ashigaru [foot soldier] called Terasaka Kichiemon went to Lord Kozuke-no-suke's gate the night before, but could not see him. No one was seen within the gate. Therefore, there were sixteen men," he reported.
