大勢が火消装束に見えるようにして押し込んできました時、長屋二か所に梯子をかけ、裏門の扉を破って大勢が押し込み、太鼓なども打って火消しの体裁を装い、その上弓矢や長刀などを持参して、所々から切り込んできました。家来たちが大勢で防ぎましたが、（敵は）武具で身を固めていたのか、こちらの家来は死人や手負いが多く、乱入した者どもは手負いになっただけで討ち留めることができませんでした。私も長刀で防いでいましたところ、二か所手負いしました。その時、目に血が入り気が遠くなりましたが、上野介のことが心配で居間へ行って見てみましたが、もはや討たれておりました。その後、乱入した者どもは引き取って見えなくなりました。以上

A large group disguised as firefighters forced their way in. They placed ladders against two sections of the long house, broke down the back gate doors, and many pushed in while beating drums and maintaining the appearance of firefighters. Moreover, they brought bows, arrows, and long swords, and attacked from various directions. Although many of our retainers defended us, perhaps because the attackers were armored, many of our retainers were killed or wounded, while the intruders were only wounded and could not be stopped. I also defended with a long sword but was wounded in two places. At that time, blood got in my eyes and I felt faint, but being concerned about Kōzuke-no-suke, I went to his sitting room to check on him, only to find that he had already been killed.
