なれは可被詠と内蔵助へ被下候由謹而再拝し各御厚恩を忝と
申上は花に泪をそゝぐやと即時に感悦仕候也越中守殿いざや此花
を興に宴を儲んとそれ〳〵とて美酒佳肴席にみち主賓
を仁愛礼譲いとも目出度風情数刻に及ひ越中守殿被為入候而
内蔵助初め拾七人之面々難有事と思ひ家老中迄御礼申上る
其後内蔵助何もへ向ひて我等とも最期近々と覚候と語る

聊疎意不可有類家知旁之者尋来候は可有対面と被免か書通も

現代語訳
なれば詠むべしと内蔵助へ下されたということです。謹んで再拝し、各々の御厚恩を忝いと申し上げ、花に涙を注ぐやと即座に感悦いたしました。越中守殿は「いざや、この花を興として宴を設けよう」とそれぞれにて、美酒佳肴が席に満ち、主賓への仁愛礼譲がいとも目出度い風情で数刻に及びました。越中守殿が入られたので、内蔵助をはじめ十七人の面々は有り難いことと思い、家老中まで御礼を申し上げました。その後、内蔵助は皆に向かって「我等とも最期が近々と覚悟している」と語りました。

Therefore, [Hosokawa Etchū-no-kami] said that [Kuranosuke] should compose a poem, and gave this to Kuranosuke. [Kuranosuke] respectfully bowed twice and expressed his gratitude for everyone's great kindness, saying "shall I shed tears upon the flowers?" and was immediately moved with joy. Etchū-no-kami said "Come now, let us prepare a banquet with these flowers as our entertainment," and thus fine wine and delicacies filled the seats. The benevolence and courtesy toward the host and guests created a most auspicious atmosphere that lasted for several hours. When Etchū-no-kami entered, Kuranosuke and the seventeen men felt this was truly grateful, and even the senior retainers expressed their thanks. Afterward, Kuranosuke spoke to everyone, saying "We all feel that our final moment is approaching."
