大小刀も渡し置いているが、逃走する人々ではないものの、門外へは無用である。この段階で気詰まりではないかとお笑いになられた。構えて枕を高くして安らかに臥すべしとて、通いの小童五六人を御付け置きになされたということです。自分には御寝所に御具足を置かれ、次に士五六人、もっとも寝番を差し置かれ、乗馬等昼夜共に御用意、その外御用心厳重であったということです。

Though they were given their swords (daishō), they were not people who would flee, but going outside the gate was unnecessary. [Mizuno] laughed, saying "Might this situation not be rather stifling?" He said they should rest peacefully with their pillows high, and assigned five or six page boys to attend them. For himself, he placed armor in his sleeping quarters, stationed five or six samurai nearby, and most importantly assigned night guards. Horses were kept ready day and night, and other precautions were strictly maintained.
