其侭場所為見分先達而御目付衆越中守殿にも御見分直に

そのまま場所を見分するため、先達て御目付衆、越中守殿にも御見分の上、直に御着座された。その間に皆も支度をした。家老の案内で御小人目付が左右に付き添って、内蔵助が罷り出て切腹を行った。そのままに障子屏風を引いて骸を隠し申した。段々と右の通りに一人ずつ罷り出て切腹を行った。場所は書院の白砂に畳五畳を敷き、その上に白木綿の布団を敷き、その上に敷革を敷いた場所である。白紋の幕を張り置いた処へ引き取り申した。右の一人ずつ、畳に布団とも敷き替え申した。場所の近所に砂を置き、血が溢れた処へ振りかけたという。四ヶ所とも大概右の通りであるという。

They remained there to inspect the site. The metsuke (inspectors) and Lord Echizen no Kami had previously conducted their inspection and immediately took their seats. During this time, everyone made their preparations. Guided by the karō (senior retainer), with kobitometsuke (junior inspectors) flanking him on both sides, Kuranosuke came forward and performed seppuku (ritual suicide). Immediately afterward, sliding doors and folding screens were drawn to conceal the corpse. One by one, following the same procedure, each man came forward and performed seppuku. The location was on white sand in the reception hall, with five tatami mats laid out, white cotton futons spread on top, and leather mats placed over them. They were taken to a place where white-crested curtains had been hung. For each individual, both the tatami and futons were completely replaced. Sand was placed near the location and sprinkled over areas where blood had spilled. All four locations followed roughly the same procedure.
