一同に無心元存三月下旬彼地へ向候節世忰三大夫へ右之存念
申聞其方儀は上之御扶持等被下候者に而も無之候間老母へ介抱
のため旁以残り候様にと申付候喜兵衛計出足可仕覚悟に而罷出候
道中なとも老人無心元候間是非御供可仕迚具足二領荷作り壱

申候は是迄は孝心之道理相立候間最早自是帰候而母養育可仕

○一、村松喜兵衛の件《割書：二十石｜五人扶持》屋敷の引き渡しが完了した後は、赤穂の情勢について皆と同様に心配に思い、三月下旬に現地へ向かう際、息子の三大夫に右の心配を話して聞かせ、「お前は主君から御扶持などを頂いている身分でもないので、老母の介護のため、どうか残るように」と申し付けた。喜兵衛だけが出発する覚悟で出かけたが、道中なども老人では心配なので、「是非ともお供したい」と言って、具足二領を荷作り一駄にして、親子交代で乗りながら赤穂の三里ほど手前まで到着した。そこで喜兵衛が申すには、「ここまでは孝行の道理が立っているが、もはやここから帰って母の養育をしたい」と申した。三大夫が申すには、「母は弟の政右衛門がおりますので【朱】《割書：この時政右衛門は小笠原長門守殿に奉公》心配はございません。ここまで参ったのに帰るのでしょうか。是非ともお供をお願いします」と願ったので、「それならば満足に思う」と答えた。

When heading to that place in late March, he explained his concerns to his son Sandayū, saying, "You are not someone who receives stipends from our lord, so please remain here to care for your elderly mother." Kihei was prepared to depart alone, but since the journey would be worrisome for an old man, Sandayū insisted "I absolutely must accompany you." They packed two sets of armor into one load and, taking turns riding, arrived about three ri before reaching Akō. There Kihei said, "Up to this point, the principle of filial piety has been maintained, but now I should return from here to care for my mother." Sandayū replied, "Since my younger brother Masaemon is with mother 【in red】《marginal note: at this time Masaemon was in service to Ogasawara Nagato-no-kami》there is no need for worry. Having come this far, should I really return? I earnestly wish to accompany you." So Kihei answered, "If that is the case, then I am satisfied."
