一、村松喜兵衛は出家して蔵原隆円と号し、平素は優れた医師となって今日の便宜として生活していた。その身はすでに六十余歳であるが、赤穂籠城の知らせを聞くと一番に駆けつけて攻め入った。一両日前にもある人のもとへ暇乞いの文歌を送った風雅な人である。

1. Muramatsu Kihē took Buddhist vows and called himself Kurahara Ryūen, becoming an excellent physician in peacetime and living with this as his occupation. Though he was already over sixty years old, when he heard news of the siege of Akō, he was the first to rush there and attack. A few days before, he had also sent farewell poems to someone, being a person of refined culture.
1. Dōshi Sandayū was a person who constantly cultivated the way of the warrior. When Ryūen heard news of planning to hold up in Akagi, Sandayū also set out together with him. Ryūen restrained him, saying "You should remain and show filial piety to your mother. This is filial duty to both parents," and remonstrated with him in various ways, but he would not listen at all and departed afterward, and on the road
