Truly this man was skilled in military arts and swordsmanship, and during the attack he fought with a sword of two shaku and seven sun. After his seppuku, this sword was retrieved from the temple by someone connected to Horibe and Okuda, and when people looked at it, they said the tsuba was like cherry blossoms and there were cut marks on the handle as well. Now, this Okuda had from some time become cold toward his wife and children, and his wife deeply grieved over this. His adopted son Sadaemon was actually the younger brother of Chikamatsu Kanroku. This man's wife was Magodayū's daughter, but he too was similarly distant from his wife, and since his adoptive mother was also of a rough disposition,
