皆々申聞候は浅野内匠頭家来牢人主人之仇吉良上野
介殿今朝討取申候而是迄参上申候立退候而御寺江欠込候訳に而は

墓前江備申迄に而候夫迄は御門を御差堅め置可被下と申置候
て直に墓所江通り申候何も寮之内より罷出候得は香炉抹香
御越候様にと申候則相渡候右之内より両人墓所之側之手桶に
水汲来り首を洗候而内匠頭様石塔之二段目江備候而皆々
石塔を取巻かしこまり両手地につけ居被申候首を洗候内

皆々が申し聞かせるには「浅野内匠頭の家来で浪人となった者たちが、主人の仇である吉良上野介殿を今朝討ち取って、ここまで参上いたしました。立ち退くために御寺へ駆け込んだわけではありません。また御寺で狼藉を働くつもりでもありません。上野殿の首を内匠頭の墓前にお供えするまでのことです。それまでは御門をしっかりとお閉めください」と申し置いて、すぐに墓所へ通って行きました。僧侶たちが僧房の内から出てきて、香炉や抹香を持参するよう申しましたので、すぐにお渡ししました。その浪人たちの内から二人が墓所の側の手桶に水を汲んできて首を洗い、内匠頭様の石塔の二段目にお供えして、皆々が石塔を取り囲み、かしこまって両手を地につけて座っておりました。首を洗っている間、内蔵助が筆と紙を求めて、何か書状などを認めている様子でした。墓所の前で

Everyone explained: "The retainers of Asano Takumi-no-kami who became rōnin have this morning killed Kira Kōzuke-no-suke, their lord's enemy, and have come here. We have not rushed into the temple to take refuge. Nor do we intend to cause any disturbance at the temple. We are here only to offer Kōzuke-no-suke's head before Takumi-no-kami's grave. Until then, please keep the gate firmly closed." Having said this, they immediately went to the gravesite. When the monks came out from their quarters, they requested incense burners and powdered incense, which were immediately provided. Two of the rōnin drew water in hand buckets beside the gravesite, washed the head, and placed it on the second tier of Lord Takumi-no-kami's stone pagoda. All of them surrounded the stone pagoda, bowed respectfully with both hands on the ground.
