に而読被申候口上書に而は其後内蔵助懐中より合口を取出し
抜候て石碑之上段に柄を石塔江向け差置候而内蔵助一番に
自名乗致焼香候右之合口を取上野介殿之首之上に三度
当て退被申候残輩壱人宛名乗候而焼香相済候而内蔵助
口上書を高く読上け被申候残之輩墓所に平伏に而居被申候
右口上書を読仕舞候と皆々一同に泣被申候右終て首を
本堂江持参此首もはや入用無之候主君には敵に而候得共
我等共は意趣無之高家歴々之御首を穢し申事
法外之至りに候御出家之事に候間宜御取計候得迚和尚

で読み上げられました。口上書の後、内蔵助が懐中から合口（短刀）を取り出して抜き、石碑の上段に柄を石塔に向けて差し置きました。そして内蔵助が一番に自分の名前を名乗って焼香いたしました。その合口を取って上野介殿の首の上に三度当てて退きました。残りの者たちも一人ずつ名乗って焼香を済ませました。そして内蔵助が口上書を高く読み上げました。残りの者たちは墓所に平伏して座っておりました。その口上書を読み終わると、皆々一同に泣きました。それが終わって首を本堂へ持参し、「この首はもはや必要ございません。主君には敵でございましたが、我等には何の私的な恨みもございません。高家の歴々の御首を穢し申すことは法外の至りでございます。御出家のことでございますので、よろしくお取り計らいください」と和尚に

After the formal statement, Kuranosuke took out an aiguchi (short sword) from his bosom, drew it, and placed it on the upper tier of the stone monument with the hilt facing the stone pagoda. Then Kuranosuke was the first to announce his name and offer incense. He took the aiguchi and touched it three times to Lord Kōzuke-no-suke's head before withdrawing. The remaining men also announced their names one by one and completed the incense offering. Then Kuranosuke read the formal statement aloud. The remaining men prostrated themselves at the gravesite. When he finished reading the statement, they all wept together. After this was completed, they brought the head to the main hall and said to the priest: "This head is no longer needed. Though he was our lord's enemy, we bear no personal grudge against him. To defile the head of one from such a distinguished high-ranking family is utterly inexcusable. Since this concerns religious matters, please handle it appropriately."
