無念に可被存候定而追懸可被参候弾正様にも米沢拾五万
石被差上候而も御実父之御首御自身御出に而御揚可被遊候
もはや此上は我々無刀に相成候而御門外江罷出四十六人之首可進
之候早々御門御開き置可被下候中〳〵賤敷働仕間敷候間
可被御心安候と申候而追手之人数を相待居被申体に御座候已上

現代語訳
に相渡し申しましたので、受け取って仏前に差し置きました。皆申しましたことには「もはやこの世の礼儀は済ませました。上野介殿の御家来は今まで我々が存じている通り、さぞかし無念に思われていることでしょう。きっと追いかけて参られるでしょう。弾正様（上杉綱憲）におかれても、米沢十五万石を差し上げられても、御実父の御首を御自身でお出になって御挙げになられるでしょう。もはやこの上は我々は刀を捨てて御門外へ出て、四十六人の首をお差し出しいたします。早々に御門をお開きおき下さい。決して卑しい振る舞いはいたしませんので、ご安心ください」と申して、追手の人数を待っている様子でございました。

Lord Danjō (Uesugi Tsunanori) too, even if he were to offer up his domain of 150,000 koku in Yonezawa, would personally come to retrieve his adoptive father's head. From this point on, we will discard our swords, go outside your gate, and offer up the heads of forty-six men. Please open your gate quickly. We will not engage in any unseemly behavior, so please be at ease." They said this and appeared to be waiting for the pursuing forces.
