臆病者であり評価するに及ばない。とりわけ伝兵衛は悪しく見える。
一、平野半平。この者は逃げる上に、大石の家の払い物代金三十両を盗み取り、京都の小路に隠れているとのこと。前代未聞である。
一、岡本次郎左衛門、同じく喜八郎。この者は先度まで金石のように申していたが、真の際には離反した。佐々小左衛門、同じく三左衛門。この者共は先日まで良く見えていたが、赤穂城守護の御着任を聞いて奉公の望みが出来て離反した。御召し抱えになってまた良い志を尽くすことができると思われる。御主人のためには笑止々々である。
