昨十五日明け六時過見せ戸を明候処何者とは不知大勢血
まふれに成て口々に被申候は弾正殿より追手来ること必定也
足手達者之輩四五人早々御墓所江首を持参被申候へ残輩
命あらん限りは弾正殿と可相果なり是は何事そと存戸
を立可申と存候処江五六人押込湯壱つ此手負に振舞候へと
被申候故湯未無之と申候へは不及是非【余り】労候侭酒壱つ振廻候へと
被申候に付店酒は御法度之旨申候得は天下第一之御法度
さへ用不申候何之御法度とはとて酒代と云て鼻紙袋より

昨日十五日の明け六つ時過ぎに店の戸を開けたところ、何者とも知れぬ大勢の者が血まみれになって、口々に申すには「弾正殿より追手が来ることは間違いない。足手の達者な者四、五人は早々に御墓所へ首を持参せよ。残りの者は命ある限りは弾正殿と戦って果てるのだ。これは何事か」と思い、戸を閉めようと思ったところ、五、六人が押し込んで来て「湯を一つ、この手負いに振る舞え」と申されました。湯はございませんと申しましたところ、「是非に及ばず、あまりに疲れているので酒を一つ振る舞え」と申されましたので、店での酒の販売は御法度の旨を申しましたところ、「天下第一の御法度さえ用いないのに、何の御法度か」と言って、酒代だと言って鼻紙袋から

1. Statement by Sake Shop Owner Jūbei
Yesterday on the 15th, just after the sixth hour of dawn, when I opened my shop door, a large group of unknown men covered in blood came saying in chorus: "Pursuers from Lord Danjō will certainly come. Four or five men who are able-bodied should quickly take the head to the grave site. The rest of us will fight Lord Danjō to the death as long as we live." Thinking "What is this about?" and intending to close the door, five or six men pushed in and said "Serve some hot water to this wounded man." When I said there was no hot water, they said "Never mind that - we are extremely tired, so serve us some sake." When I explained that selling sake in the shop was prohibited by law, they said "We don't even follow the greatest prohibitions in the realm, so what prohibition is that?" and saying it was payment for sake, from a paper tissue bag
