戸江下けるか其時分内蔵助散々煩けれは暫快気を待とて時移りける
まゝ此内に今壱度母に逢ふて帰らんとて又播州江趣母か在所江立越
案内す母聞て惣右衛門か来るとかや定て兼而之事首尾能候て社
来る覧手は不負かいかにと云惣右衛門其義に而はなく候と有し事共
語りて夜に入けれは寐て夜明て起出しに母見へす下女に聞はいつも早
御目覚させ給ふか今朝はいかゝ被成候哉遅く候云老人之事心元なく惣右衛門
行て見よと下女を遣せしに下女行て見あつといふて出る惣右衛門驚き
急き行てみれは母は守刀に而自害しあけに成て死居たり惣右衛門
を初め下女共あきれ涙の外は事そなき側に有ける一通の書置

江戸へ下ったが、その時分内蔵助がひどく病気になったので、しばらく快気を待とうとして時が経ってしまった。そのうちに、今一度母に会って帰ろうと思い、また播州へ向かい、母のいる故郷へ立ち寄って訪問した。母が聞いて「惣右衛門が来るとか。きっと以前からの件がうまく運んだので来るのでしょう。手応えはどうでしょうか」と言った。惣右衛門は「そのようなことではございません」と言って、これまでの出来事を語り、夜になったので寝て、夜が明けて起き上がったところ、母が見えない。下女に聞くと「いつもお早くお目覚めになりますが、今朝はどうなさったのでしょうか。遅うございます」と言う。老人のことなので心配で、惣右衛門が「行って見てみよ」と下女を遣わしたところ、下女が行って見て「あっ」と言って出てきた。惣右衛門は驚いて急いで行って見ると、母は守り刀で自害して朱に染まって死んでいた。惣右衛門をはじめ下女たちは呆然として涙のほかは何もない。そばにあった一通の書き置き
