現代語訳
奴僕を育て、恩沢は他に望むことなく年月を送ってきた。今や白刃を踏み、必死を決して、君臣の義を辱めることのないようにしたいと思う。これ以上の幸いがあろうか。願わくは吉良上野介、吉良左兵衛の首を得て、長矩君の御霊前に献じたいと思う。なお野詩一絶を綴って、その志を述べる。
身を寄す寒雲に江海の東
命を愆つ恩義に世塵の中
英語訳
raised my servants, and spent the years with no other desire than for his benevolent favor. Now I step upon white blades, resolve to die with certainty, and wish to avoid bringing shame to the duty between lord and retainer. What greater happiness could there be than this? I hope to obtain the heads of Kira Kozuke-no-suke and Kira Sahyōe and offer them before the spirit of Lord Naganori. I further compose a quatrain poem to express my resolve:
I entrust my body to the cold clouds in the east of rivers and seas
I devote my life to duty and righteousness amidst the dust of the world
