子の刻（午後十一時頃）に内蔵助がひそかに供も連れずに参り、又右衛門にお目にかかりたいので寝所へ伺いたいと申したところ、又右衛門がそうしようと申した。そこで（内蔵助が）お心遣いをいただき、土佐守様からの御使者は有り難く存じ上げると述べた。この度の義について私どもの心底をご推察いただきたい。それについて上野介殿の生死の件がまだよく聞こえて参りません。江戸におります安井彦右衛門、藤井又左衛門がどのように合点いたしているか、生死の模様がよく分かりません。きっと土佐守様には生死をお聞きになっているでしょうから、内匠頭殿の義をお思いになってくださるなら、ひそかにお和解くださるよう願い奉ると申し聞かせた。又右衛門はその意を得た旨を申し述べた。
【朱書挿入部分】内蔵助がひたすらお願い申し上げる旨を申して、即刻帰った。翌二十五日【挿入終わり】早朝に内蔵助、九郎兵衛が参り、御口上の趣旨を家中の者どもに申し聞かせ、畏れ多く承った旨の御請けを申し上げた。又右衛門は二十五日に赤穂表を出発し、同二十七日の夜に三次へ帰った。二十八日に右の御請けを申し上げた。

Around the hour of the rat (about 11 PM), Kuranosuke came secretly without any attendants and said he wished to meet with Mataemon and would like to come to his sleeping quarters. Mataemon agreed to this. There, (Kuranosuke) expressed gratitude for the thoughtful consideration, saying he was most grateful for the messenger from Lord Tosa no Kami. Regarding this matter, he asked that his true feelings be understood. Concerning this, he said that news of Lord Kōzuke no Suke's life or death had not yet been clearly heard. He did not know what Yasui Hikoemon and Fujii Matazaemon, who are in Edo, understood of the situation, and the circumstances of (Kira's) life or death were unclear. Surely Lord Tosa no Kami would have heard about the matter of life or death, so if he would consider Lord Takumi no Kami's situation, he humbly requested that secret mediation be arranged. Mataemon replied that he understood the intention.
[Inserted in red ink] Kuranosuke said he earnestly requested this and immediately returned. The next day, the 25th, [End of insertion] early in the morning, Kuranosuke and Kurōbei came and reported that they had informed the domain retainers of the verbal message and humbly gave their formal acceptance. Mataemon departed from Akō on the 25th and returned to Miyoshi on the night of the 27th. On the 28th, he reported the aforementioned formal acceptance.
