出足四月十二日罷帰其趣意は吉良上野介殿生死之事去る十五日出之
飛脚に不申来候右生死之義相知不申候に付家中存念之者共御座候に付
此元致騒動落着不申候右之趣聞届慥成義可被申越候右之通騒
動に付鎮り候様御一家様方ゟ御下知被仰出候様にと奉存候此旨趣其許

○一 田中権左衛門《割書：大目付》副使山本左六《割書：歩行八両三人扶持》が江戸へ三月二十五日の夜に出発し、四月十二日に帰った。その趣意は、吉良上野介殿の生死のことについて、去る十五日に出した飛脚からの連絡がなく、右の生死の件が分からないため、家中に不満を抱く者たちがおり、この地で騒動を起こして落ち着かない状況である。右の趣旨をお聞き届けいただき、確かな情報をお知らせください。右の通り騒動のため、鎮まるよう御一家様方からご命令をお出しくださるようにと存じます。この趣旨をそちらで

The purpose was regarding the matter of Lord Kira Kōzuke no Suke's life or death - there had been no communication from the courier dispatched on the 15th, and since the matter of his life or death remained unknown, there were those among the retainers who harbored resentment, causing disturbances in this area that would not settle.
