現代語訳
○一 赤穂の面々に異心がある様子だと聞こえてきており、江戸でも色々な風聞があるためであろうか、安芸守様と戸田采女正様の御留守居が三月晦日に土屋相模守殿へ呼び出された。「来る十九日頃に赤穂の城引き渡しがある予定であるが、間違いなく引き渡すよう」との申し合わせがあり、「御家来を派遣するのがよろしい」との御内意があった。采女正殿には御家老を、安芸守殿には御側の用人を派遣するようにとの御指図である。これにより采女正殿からは戸田権左衛門を、安芸守様からは井上団右衛門を派遣することとなった。
○一 土佐守様から伊藤五右衛門が参ったことに付き、重ねて御使者として内田孫右衛門《割書：馬廻り 百三十石》を三月二十八日に派遣し、赤穂へ四月朔日に到着、同五日に三次へ帰着した。内蔵助と九郎兵衛へ下賜された御書を持参し、その写しである。

○ One: It appears that the retainers of Akō harbor some rebellious intentions, and there are various rumors circulating in Edo as well. Perhaps for this reason, the caretakers (rusui) of Aki-no-kami-sama and Toda Uneme-no-shō-sama were summoned by Tsuchiya Sagami-no-kami-dono on the last day of the third month. They were told that "the handover of Akō Castle is scheduled for around the 19th of the coming month, and it should be carried out without fail." There was an informal suggestion that "it would be appropriate to dispatch retainers." The directive was to send a senior retainer (karō) from Uneme-no-shō-dono's side, and a chamberlain attendant (goyōnin) from Aki-no-kami-dono's side. Accordingly, Uneme-no-shō-dono dispatched Toda Gonzaemon, and Aki-no-kami-sama dispatched Inoue Dan'emon.
○ One: Following the visit of Itō Goemon from Tosa-no-kami-sama, Uchida Magoemon (marginal note: mounted retainer, 130 koku stipend) was dispatched as an additional messenger on the 28th of the third month. He arrived in Akō on the 1st of the fourth month and returned to Miyoshi on the 5th of the same month. This is a copy of the letter he carried that was bestowed upon Kuranosuke and Kurōbee.
