現代語訳
片上まで行ったところ、松平伊予守殿から津田左源太並びに郡代、物頭、大目付、代官等まで出仕して勤務していたため通行が困難で、その上赤穂へ行く者は吟味を受けるということで、脇道を通って有年村へ行き、四月朔日の夜五時前に赤穂へ到着した。
町年寄の柳屋という者のところへ三次よりの使者と申し出ると、早速家老中へ伝達したのか、直ちに使者宿の白銀や助右衛門という者のところへ案内され馳走を受けた。物頭の八嶋惣右衛門、長澤六郎右衛門《上下、長髪》が来て、孫右衛門は立ったまま応対した。
右の御書状と添書を両人が受け取り、即刻内蔵助、九郎兵衛が上下の服装で使者宿へやって来て、孫右衛門を上座に通し、口上を申し述べた。
「内匠頭様の御仕合について、そちらには別条ございませんでしょうか。この度

The military commanders Yashima Sōemon and Nagasawa Rokurōemon (wearing formal dress and having long hair) came, and Magoemon attended them while standing.
Both men received the aforementioned letter and accompanying documents, and immediately Kuranosuke and Kurōbee, dressed in formal attire, came to the messenger lodgings, seated Magoemon in the place of honor, and delivered their verbal message:
