此度内匠頭義不慮之無調法之義に付而切腹被 仰付依之
城地被 召上候段家中之者共奉畏候当日之次第江戸に罷在候
年寄共江鈴木源五右衛門様被仰渡之趣其已後土屋相模守様
に而戸田采女正殿浅野美濃守殿江被仰渡候次第奉畏候迄に
御座候相手上野助様御卒去之上に而内匠切腹被 仰付候
現代語訳
一、安芸守様からの御使者吉田七郎右衛門（馬廻り、二百五十石）が三月二十九日に到着した。
○一、赤穂に滞在している内蔵助を初めとして、存念のある輩について、その趣旨を多川九左衛門（四百石）、月岡次右衛門（三百石）の両使者を通じて、御目付荒木十左衛門殿、榊原采女殿へ鬱憤の義について書付をもって申し上げた。その写し：
「この度、内匠頭義が不慮の不調法の義により切腹を仰せ付けられ、これにより城地を召し上げられた段について、家中の者ども畏まって承っております。当日の次第について、江戸に滞在していた年寄どもへ鈴木源五右衛門様が仰せ渡された趣旨、その後土屋相模守様において戸田采女正殿、浅野美濃守殿へ仰せ渡された次第を畏まって承るまででございます。相手の上野助様がご逝去された上で、内匠が切腹を仰せ付けられました。」

1. The messenger from Lord Aki-no-kami, Yoshida Shichirō-uemon (mounted retainer, 250 koku), arrived on the 29th day of the 3rd month.
○1. Regarding Kuranosuke and others staying in Akō who harbored certain intentions, their sentiments were conveyed through two messengers, Tagawa Kyūzaemon (400 koku) and Tsukioka Jirō-uemon (300 koku), to the inspectors Lord Araki Jūzaemon and Lord Sakakibara Uneme in the form of a written statement expressing their grievances. A copy follows:
"Regarding the matter that Lord Takumi-no-kami was ordered to commit seppuku due to an unexpected breach of conduct, and consequently had his castle domain confiscated, all members of our domain humbly acknowledge this. Concerning the proceedings of that day, we humbly acknowledge up to the point where Lord Suzuki Gen'gorō-uemon conveyed the orders to the senior retainers who were in Edo, and subsequently the orders conveyed by Lord Tsuchiya Sagami-no-kami through Lord Toda Uneme-no-shō and Lord Asano Mino-no-kami. Lord Takumi was ordered to commit seppuku after the death of his opponent, Lord Kōzuke-no-suke."
