あわずとおふせらし
とふりとふせいふうを
とやかくとおせくおかまい
やるなととしよりそふおうに

孔子も時に
合わずとおっしゃったし、
古風と古制風を
とやかくと、お世話
やるなと年寄り相応に
古い張り込みにて
髪の本だがどうしゃ
下、昔のように
立派風や文金
風、今の若い者が
なるものか気が違った
相だ。風俗も
時々のように
しなければまず第一
心に働きも
なく、皆様の
ご機嫌のよいように
浅黄の裏
でも白茶でも
昨日あたり

英語訳

Confucius too said
that things don't always suit the times.
Don't fuss over
old-fashioned styles and ancient customs -
as befits one's age,
with old-fashioned devotion.
What about the foundation of the hair?
Below, like in the old days,
the dignified style or bunkin
style - how could today's young people
manage such things? They seem mad.
Fashion too
must be done according
to the times, or else first of all
there's no vitality
in the heart, and to please
everyone,
whether with light blue lining
or whitish tea color,
around yesterday...
