用意しけるが禁長は纔主従二人也
如何して防（ふせ）がんと思慮しけるがふと一
計（けい）を思ひ付鷹に私語（さゝやき）臥床（ふしとこ）には
藁（わら）を入れて両人 臥（ふし）たる体にもてなし
其身は傍（あた）りの大杉場所のよき所に登（のぼ）り
鷹（たか）は向ふの森に身を隠（かく）し大木大石を
運（はこ）ひ取己れ早く来れがし一 疋（ひき）も残
らす打殺さんと息（いき）を詰（つめ）て待懸たり
斯る事とは夢にもしらず津田方には

用意をしたが、禁長はわずか主従二人である。いかにして防ごうかと思案していたが、ふと一計を思いつき、鷹にささやいた。寝床には藁を入れて両人が臥している体裁を整え、自分は辺りの大杉の場所の良い所に登り、鷹は向こうの森に身を隠して大木大石を運び取った。「己ら早く来い。一匹も残らず打ち殺してやろう」と息を詰めて待ち構えていた。
このような事とは夢にも知らず、津田方では六右衛門を始め、九左衛門、作右衛門、八兵衛、役右衛門等の屈強な悪狸合わせて六十匹ほどを従え、その夜の丑の刻過ぎに各々穴観音を出立して禁長の住処へ押し寄せた。しかもその夜は雨が降って闇となり、「闇は我等の得意とするところ」と大石小石を用意し、難なく彼の住処へ到着して見れば、宵に酒宴をなした様子で、そこら辺りに物が取り散らかし、禁長と鷹は前後も知らず伏している様子である。六右衛門は大いに喜び、「それっ」と

They made preparations, but Kinchō had only two retainers with him as master and servant. He pondered how to defend themselves, when suddenly he thought of a stratagem and whispered to Taka. He stuffed straw into their beds to make it appear that both men were lying there, while he himself climbed up into a good position in a large cedar tree nearby, and Taka hid in the forest across the way, carrying large trees and stones. "Come quickly, you rogues. I'll kill every last one of you without exception," he said, holding his breath as he lay in wait.
Completely unaware of this, at Tsuda's side, Rokuemon led Kyūzaemon, Sakuemon, Hachibe, Yakuemon, and other strong evil tanuki—about sixty in total—and past the hour of the Ox that night, they departed from their various holes at Kannon and pressed toward Kinchō's dwelling. Moreover, that night it was raining and dark, and thinking "darkness is our specialty," they prepared large and small stones and easily reached his dwelling. When they looked, it appeared as though there had been a drinking party in the evening, with things scattered about the area, and Kinchō and Taka appeared to be lying unconscious, unaware of what was happening around them. Rokuemon was greatly delighted and shouted, "Now!"
