押倒（おしたを）さんとする其 強力（こうりき）あたかも暴（ぼう）
風にことならず今は某もたまりか
ね松より下（した）へ真逆（まつさか）様に落（おち）たり
其時すでに殺されんと覚悟（かくご）究めて
居たりし所禁長申けるは我其方
を殺さん事いと安しといへども元
より其方に恨（うらみ）なし目ざす敵は
六右衛門九左衛門 等（ら）也依て一命を助（たす）け
遣（つか）わす間此書状を持帰り六右衛門に
渡すべしと仁慈（じんじ）の詞（こと）に我申けるは敵（てき）
ながらも天晴の大将なり併一旦 組敷（くみしか）
れながらおめ〳〵と命を助り帰る様な
狸（たぬき）ならず早喰殺し下されと申
せども禁長さらに聞入ず汝一疋助け
しとてさのみ仇にも成（なる）るまじ人の
見ぬ間に早帰れと云われて我も
力（ちから）なく無念ながら立帰り候と息（いき）つぎ
あへず物語り彼一書を六右衛門に
現代語訳
押し倒そうとする、その強力さはあたかも暴風と変わらない。今は私もたまらず、松より下へ真っ逆様に落ちました。その時すでに殺されるものと覚悟を決めていたところ、禁長が申すには『我がそなたを殺すことはいと容易いことだが、元よりそなたに恨みはない。目指す敵は六右衛門、九左衛門らである。よって一命を助けてやるので、この書状を持ち帰り六右衛門に渡すべし』と慈悲深い言葉をかけられました。
私が申すには『敵ながらも天晴れな大将でございます。しかし一旦組み敷かれながら、おめおめと命を助けられて帰るような狸ではございません。早く喰い殺してください』と申しましたが、禁長は全く聞き入れず、『汝一匹を助けたとて、さほど仇にもなるまい。人の見ぬ間に早く帰れ』と言われ、私も力なく、無念ながら立ち帰りました」と息継ぎもできないほど物語り、あの手紙を六右衛門に

tried to push it over, and his strength was like nothing less than a violent storm. Now I could no longer endure it and fell headfirst down from the pine tree. At that moment, I had already resolved to be killed, but Kinchō said, 'Though it would be very easy for me to kill you, I bear no grudge against you from the start. My targeted enemies are Rokūemon, Kyūzaemon, and the others. Therefore I will spare your life, so take this letter back and deliver it to Rokūemon,' speaking words of benevolence.
I replied, 'Though you are an enemy, you are truly a magnificent general. However, I am not the kind of tanuki who would shamefully return home with my life spared after being overpowered. Please kill and devour me quickly.' But Kinchō would not listen at all, saying, 'Even if I spare one tanuki like you, it will hardly make much difference as an enemy. Return quickly while no one is watching.' I was powerless and, though filled with regret, returned home." Breathlessly telling this story, she presented that letter to Rokūemon.
