私は門口でこれを見ました。このような確かな証拠がある以上、もはや逃れることはできません。素直に白状しなさい」と言われて、鹿子は顔色を変え、一言の返事もなく俯いていた。六右衛門はなおも怒り「おのれ奸賊め、我を軽んじること重々憎き小狸である。誰かいるか、あれをなぶり殺しにせよ」と言葉が終わるや否や、作右衛門が飛びかかり、鹿子を引き倒して肩口に食いついた。
鹿子も賢いもので、引き外して逃げようとしたが、高坊主が駆け寄って後ろ足をひどく噛み切った。鹿子は急所の痛手に白い牙をむき出し「無念」とうめいたところを、作右衛門・九左衛門らが飛びかかり、容易になぶり殺しにしてしまった。むごいと言うのも哀れである。大将は大いに喜び、死骸は土手の上へ打ち捨て、皆々の喜びは限りない。ここに鹿子の女房である小鹿子は
