糊入半切の手紙が言うには：
「私はある屋敷の倹約家の医者のところへ薬代として一分では多すぎる、何両では少し不足だということで、何両かに私を一束付けて送られました。一年中薬包みにいるものなので、安っぽいのは分かっていましたが、どうやらやぶ医者と見えて、薬包みも多くは良い加減にして、半切にされました。いやもう、医者も内情に入ってみれば、いろいろなことがあります。この医者はちょっと難しい病人には何度も見舞いもせず、お世話風邪程度にはちょっとちょっと見舞い、さあ行くのが最後

診察が長くて、いろいろな浮世話を始め、また家で薬を盛るときに病家から容態伺いが来ると、その返事をろくな手でもないのに唐様らしく書き散らしてやるので、病家では患者の病状よりも合判物を見るように考えて、文字が悪筆の唐様なので熱から読めず、『ええはございました』と聞こうとして状差しに渡されていましたが、どうしてかこの中へ捨てられて売られました。

The paper with glue for half-size sheets says:
"I was sent to a frugal doctor at a certain estate along with medicine payment - one bu was too much, several ryo was a bit insufficient, so I was attached as one bundle to several ryo and sent over. Since I'm always used for wrapping medicines, I knew I was cheap, but this doctor appears to be a quack, and most of his medicine wrapping was done carelessly, so I was cut to half-size. Well now, even doctors have all sorts of things going on behind the scenes. This doctor doesn't visit difficult patients repeatedly, only makes brief visits for simple cases like colds, and that's the last you see of him.

His consultations drag on as he starts telling various worldly tales. When inquiries about patients' conditions come from their homes, even though his handwriting isn't decent, he scrawls responses in a pseudo-Chinese style. So the families end up focusing more on deciphering the writing like examining official seals rather than understanding the patient's condition. Since his poor handwriting in Chinese style is unreadable due to fever, they would ask 'Was that acceptable?' and pass it to the messenger, but somehow I ended up discarded and sold.
