現代語訳
小菊の鼻紙が言うには：
「何かご存知ませんか。私は馬道で四つ（四文）で籠の中へ買われましたが、どんぶりなどの間へ押し込まれ、籠の中から『はよう、やれやれ』と言うと、一飛びに参りましたが、大門口で降りて、仲の町へ上がり、酒などを飲むと『丁子屋』という暖簾の掛かった家の二階へ上がり、女郎が出てくると、遣り手や若い者が座敷へ来て、無性におだて上げられました。

「緑屋、お燗を直しや」
「旦那、ちょっといただきましょう」
「これはありがたや」
そこで私を二、三枚出して、肴を取ろうと一枚ずつやりましたが、よく考えてみれば、金の代わりのようでございます。やる金もないくらいなら、遊びに行かぬがよろしゅうございます。茶屋の損になりましょう。そして若い者めがもらった所が、金と引き換えにでもするかと存じましたところ、廊下へ出ると、ちんちんと鼻をかんで捨てられました。

The tissue paper named Kogiku says:
"Don't you know anything about this? I was bought for four mon at Umamichi and put into a basket, stuffed between bowls and such. From inside the basket, when someone said 'hurry up, come on,' I flew out in one bound. We got off at the Daimon entrance, went up to Nakanomachi, and after drinking sake, went up to the second floor of a house with a noren curtain reading 'Chojiya.' When a courtesan appeared, the house manager and young men came to the parlor and flattered her excessively.

Then they took out two or three pieces of me to use as appetizer plates, giving them out one by one. But thinking about it carefully, I was being used like money. If they don't even have money to spend, it would be better not to go out for pleasure. It will be a loss for the teahouse. And when the young man received me, I thought he might exchange me for money, but when he went out to the corridor, he just blew his nose with me and threw me away.
