八月四日、「ヴィッサンブール」において「プロイセン」国太子の兵が「フランス」国軍と戦いこれを敗ったが、その残兵が「ウール」の方へ逃走したことを記すのを前に脱漏してしまった。ゆえにここに掲げる。〇この「ウール」は人口およそ一千三百を有する村落であり、「ヴィッサンブール」の西南十二里、「ヴォージュ」山地の東斜面に位置する地である。〇「ウール」の西にある丘陵において、「フランス」国人は「プロイセン」国太子に対して陣を布くに有利な地を占め、大いに利を得た。この時「マクマホン」が自ら指揮を執ったことにより、兵はみな十分な勝利を得られるものと期した——

On the fourth of August, at "Wissembourg," the forces of the "Prussian" Crown Prince fought against the "French" army and defeated them; however, the author had inadvertently omitted to record the fact that the remnant troops fled in the direction of "Woerth." This omission is therefore here supplied. ○ This "Woerth" is a village of approximately one thousand three hundred inhabitants, situated twelve ri to the southwest of "Wissembourg," on the eastern slopes of the "Vosges" mountains. ○ On the hills to the west of "Woerth," the "French" forces occupied a position well suited to deploying their lines against the "Prussian" Crown Prince, and gained great advantage thereby. At this time, as "MacMahon" himself took personal command, the troops all anticipated achieving a decisive victory——
