現代語訳
もうけた金を返すつもりで見てみたところ、相撲の興行で二度売れたほどの金を返してみると「足りないもんだ」ということを聞いて呼んでいるので、金を返して足りない時は手擦りを足すものの、あまりにのろまな詮索だと工夫をつけても呑気なものである。
しかし、特に欲しがる大晦日という所を跳ねにして、もうけた金を一分も残らず降らせた。
「良い暮れでござる」とは金のことであるが、こんなまた良い暮れもないもの。日暮れ方にはさっぱり払いを済ませ、買いたいものは心任せ、危険の悪いものは一人もなく、「良い暮れでございます」という声、笑い声が天へ響く。
雷風神の謀反も済んで、良い正月をする。

英語訳
When they intended to return the money they had profited, they found that even after returning the amount equivalent to twice the earnings from sumo tournaments, people were calling out "it's still not enough!" So when returning money wasn't sufficient, they would supplement with additional payments, but even with such sluggish investigation and devising solutions, they remained carefree.
However, they made the much-desired New Year's Eve their finale and rained down every last bit (one bu) of their ill-gotten gains.
"What a good year-end!" refers to the money, and indeed there could be no better year-end than this. By evening, all debts were completely settled, people could buy whatever they wished, there was no one in financial danger, and voices saying "What a wonderful year-end!" and laughter echoed up to heaven.
The thunder and wind gods' rebellion was now resolved, and they would have a good New Year.
