江戸上屋敷御門番平日勤務方法
一、朝六つ時が打たれたら、御広間から大門の潜り戸および両御門の鍵を、新参の者が受け取り海老錠を開ける。夜明けまでは潜り戸も仮締めにしておく。御玄関の戸が開いたら潜り戸を開き、張番を行うこと。ただし大御門の扉は昼でも平日は仮締めにしておく。夕方七つ半時過ぎの暮れ合いに、潜り戸を半分建て寄せ置き、御玄関の戸を締めたら、御番所の戸もはめて両方に開き置き、行燈をつけて夜番を行う。夜五つ半時が打たれたら、屋敷内を時番が巡回し、御玄関前まで来て拍子木を打ち終わった時に、御番の戸を建て寄せ、両御門の海老錠を締め、両方の鍵ともに古参の者が御広間に納めること。それ以降、御門を往来する衆中について、どなたが御門に入り、またはどなたが御門を出られたかを一々申し上げ、その都度鍵を受け取り納めること。両人で交代で勤務すること。

Daily Duties of Gate Guards at the Edo Upper Residence
1. When the morning sixth hour (around 6 AM) bell is struck, a junior member shall receive the keys for the wicket gate of the main gate and both gates from the reception hall, and open the lobster locks. Until dawn, the wicket gate shall also be temporarily secured. When the entrance door opens, the wicket gate shall be opened and guard duty shall be performed. However, the main gate doors shall be kept temporarily secured even during daytime on regular days. At evening, after the seventh and a half hour (around 4:30 PM) at dusk, the wicket gate shall be half-closed, and when the entrance door is shut, the guard post door shall also be fitted, opened on both sides, lanterns lit, and night watch performed. When the night fifth and a half hour (around 9 PM) bell strikes, the time guard shall patrol the residence grounds, come to the front of the entrance, and when finished striking the wooden clappers, close the guard post door, lock the lobster locks of both gates, and a senior member shall store both sets of keys in the reception hall. Thereafter, regarding the people coming and going through the gate, each instance of who enters or exits the gate must be reported one by one, and each time the keys must be received and stored. Two people shall serve in alternating shifts.
