煤花川もしかりなりといふ此由聞人壱人として
実否をしらすといへとも大河のなかれ何ゆへに
留る事あらんや爰に出いて虚として
侮とらす実としておそれす其噂区〳〵なり
爰にいかなる天変不思議なるか山中虚空
藏山又岩倉山ともいふ此大山左右に抜
崩れて犀川におし埋みかゝる大河を止る

なと言あひけれはいかなる天変不思義そと
聞も語るもなか〳〵に身体ふるひ身うちも

しふるゝ斗り也漸く一命助りて又今爰に
左程の大河を押出しなはたてもたま
らす水災のいかなるわさをなすへしと
途方にくるゝはかりなり爰に善左衛門
家内のものは暮あひ頃より漸くに小屋掛け
の用意はなせしかとも五月の節句の飾の
鑓の棒二本天井椽三本のほか竹のをれ
たにあらされは薪を以て杭とはなせど是を
ひとつ打込むものもあらされはありあふ
小石を取上けて漸くにうちこみて

現代語訳

煤花川も同様だという。この話を聞く人は一人として真偽のほどを知らないというが、大河の流れが何故に止まることがあろうか。ここに出てきて、嘘として侮ることもなく、真実として恐れることもなく、その噂は様々である。ここで、いかなる天変地異か、山中虚空蔵山また岩倉山ともいうこの大きな山が左右に崩れ落ちて犀川に押し込まれ、大河を堰き止める。《割注：犀川筋また山中方面、川中島、川北東の水災等の事はすべて後編に詳述》恐ろしいなどと言い合ったので、いかなる天変地異かと聞くのも語るのも、非常に身体が震え、身の内も震えるばかりである。

ようやく一命を助かって、またここで、それほどの大河を押し出すならばとても堪らず、水災がいかなる災いをなすだろうかと途方に暮れるばかりである。ここで善左衛門の家族の者は、夕暮れ頃からようやく小屋掛けの用意を始めたが、五月の節句の飾りの槍の棒二本、天井の垂木三本のほか、竹の折れたものしかなかったので、薪を杭として使ったが、これを一つ打ち込む者もいなかったので、その辺にある小石を取り上げてようやく打ち込んで
