忙然たり蜂なを軒端に
舞ふて槐安国をかへりたる
人のことし【如し。】かくてあるし【主】ちかころ
水滸伝の人物をうつして
画るものあり見□□□とかの帙を
ひらけは我夢し人こと〳〵く
冊中にありされは睡中必
この画裡に遊ふならしこゝに頃日

書肆何かし是を梓にちりはめ
世に広うせむことをねかふ燕
終に諾して予に其緒をとかしむ
我方外の友たれは辞するに
及はす筆を採てしかいふ

【落款二つ】

現代語訳

茫然としている。蜂がなお軒端に
舞って槐安国から帰った
人のようである。こうして主人が近頃
水滸伝の人物を写して
描いているものがある。見ると何とかという帙を
開けば、我が夢に見た人々がことごとく
冊子の中にあった。されば睡眠中必ず
この絵の中に遊んでいるのであろう。ここに近日

書肆の誰某がこれを版木に彫って
世に広く出版することを願い、燕（石燕）は
ついに承諾して私にその序文を書かせた。
我は世俗を離れた友であるから辞退するには
及ばず、筆を取ってこのように言う。

英語訳

I remained in a dazed state. The bees still
Dance at the eaves like a person
Who has returned from the Kingdom of Huai'an.
Thus the master has recently been
Copying and painting figures from the Water Margin.
Looking at a certain volume,
When opened, all the people I had dreamed of were
Found within the pages. Therefore, during sleep I must
Have been wandering within these paintings. Recently

A certain bookseller wished to carve these into woodblocks
And publish them widely in the world. Sekien
Finally consented and had me write the preface.
Since I am a friend detached from worldly affairs, there is no need
To decline, so I take up my brush and write thus:
