　　　コロモゼミ　　ハゴロモゼミ

　　この蝉の鳴き声を聞いて蕎麦の
　　種を蒔く。越後ではソバマキゼミ
　　と言い、江戸ではミンミンゼミと言うもの
　　である。

正字通に言う「最も大きく色が黒く、夏に鳴いて声の壮なるものを蝒と言い、馬蜩と言う。馬蜩蝒の音は緜（めん）。大きくて文様があり、額が広くかつ方形のものを螓と言い、蜻々と言う。詩経ではこれを婦人の額に比喩して螓首と言う。夏小正には鳴蚻とあり、一名虎縣。蚻すなわち螓である」

正字通に言う「蝉の種類は一つではない。爾雅では蜩を蝉の総名とし、蝉は通語である。詳しく言えば、五采を具えて諸蝉に先駆けて鳴くものを蜋蜩と言う」

Cicadas Singing in the Fifth Month

　　Upon hearing this cicada's voice,
　　buckwheat seeds are sown. In Echigo province it is called
　　Sobamaki-zemi (Buckwheat-sowing Cicada),
　　and in Edo it is called Min-min-zemi.

According to the Zhengzitong: "The largest with black coloration that sings in summer with a strong voice is called jiǒng, also called mǎtiáo. The sound of mǎtiáojiǒng is mián. Those that are large with patterns and have broad, square foreheads are called qín, also called qīngqīng. The Book of Songs compares this to women's foreheads, calling them qín-heads. The Xia Xiaozheng mentions míngqū, also called hǔxiàn. Qū is the same as qín."

According to the Zhengzitong: "There is not just one type of cicada. The Erya takes tiáo as the general name for cicadas, while chán is the common term. Speaking in detail, those possessing five colors and singing before all other cicadas are called róngtiáo."
