瓢兒　此名見于帝京景物畧　紫茄ノ蟲ナリ

現代語訳

【右丁】
瓢兒　この名は『帝京景物略』に見える。紫茄（ナス）の虫である。
六七月、茄子の葉に自然と発生する。最初はダンゴムシのようで、葉の裏につくときは皆黄色く萎れる。多くつくときは精気を吸い取って花実を結ばないものである。形は丸く変化して動かなくなり、ついにテントウムシとなって飛ぶ。その色は赤黒く黒い星がある。

麻城の劉洞が著した『帝京景物略』に云う：
一つの虫で赤豆のようで胡麻の斑点があるものを
瓢児という。菜畦に生じ、これを捉えると臭い
黄色い汚れが落とすことができず、しかし童子は手で
やまないものである。

Hyōji (Ladybug)　This name appears in the "Teikyo Keibbutsu Ryaku" (Survey of the Capital's Natural Features). It is an insect of the purple eggplant.
In the sixth and seventh months, it naturally appears on eggplant leaves. At first it resembles a pill bug, and when it attaches to the underside of leaves, they all turn yellow and wither. When many attach, they absorb the vital essence and prevent flowering and fruiting. Its form becomes round and motionless, finally transforming into a ladybug and flying away. Its color is reddish-black with black spots.

Liu Dong of Macheng wrote in his "Teikyo Keibbutsu Ryaku":
"An insect that resembles a red bean with sesame-like spots
is called hyōji. It appears in vegetable beds, and when caught, it releases a foul-smelling
yellow stain that cannot be removed, yet children
persist in handling it with their hands."
